What is LiveCD and how do I use it?

A LiveCD is a version of Linux that boots from CD and runs from CD - it does not require installation to use. It can be a good way to get a feel for the OS, but lacks functionality founded in the installed version.

Although, it doesn't appear Linux Mint has a LiveCD version, so perhaps a virtualization would be better.

You need the full VMWare Workstation in order to use it like I was suggesting. If you can't get it, Microsoft's Virtual Machine is free and easy to get.
