McAfee to offer ethical hacking course

Computing SA
22 February, 2008

McAfee has announced that its Foundstone Professional Services division will offer a "Certified Ethical Hacking" course, designed to empower IT professionals with the skills they need to detect vulnerabilities on their systems.

The course marks the first time that McAfee has offered a certified training programme, which it will offer as an accredited training partner of the International Council of Electronic Commerce Consultants (EC-Council).

As threats continue to grow and cyber criminals become more sophisticated, organisations must take steps to understand their vulnerabilities and repair them before they are discovered by outsiders.

The course will allow these organisations to take proactive steps towards becoming more secure. The course is called "Certified Ethical Hacker" because it teaches participants the skills they need to hack into vulnerable systems, but requires them to sign a pledge that they will not use these skills on any networks other than their own.

"We are rounding out our education offering with a powerful course," says Bill Hau, vice-president of McAfee Foundstone Professional Services. "Our clients have been asking for a course that enables them to pass the certification and we are responding to the overall need. By teaching security professionals how to identify the vulnerabilities within their own systems, I believe we will make a very positive impact on the security of networks worldwide."
