Well, this has been making me worry, as it generally happens 1 - 3 times a day. It's this high-pitched "K" "K" "K" sound that I hear coming from the computer. Sometimes I've heard it up close and it appears to be coming from the lower section of the computer where the HDDs are. Is one of my drives going rotten?  |

ya, I would save all your important data while you can, once a hdd gets audible its nearing the bone yard. Check when you purchased it, some of them have up to a 3 or 5 yr warranty. You might be able to get it replaced for free (well shipping cost) my main hdd for my OS on my main pc went last November, WD sent me a new one. You never know, most of the mfg web sites have a support area where you can enter the serial and see if its still covered

That's nice... although I'm not sure which drive is failing. I have three. 
Anyone know how I can check drive integrity? So far Windows hasn't done, said... well anything strange or unusual. |

You can grab a testing utility from the drive makers website like datalifeguard for WD drives.

There are many utilities that check drive integrity. First check with the manufacturer of the drive. They usually have tools on their web site for this.

Have you checked in the System Event Log? There may be entries in there about unreadable sectors, etc.

Also, where's that system event log?

Right click on My Computer, choose Manage and the Event Viewer is one of the options from the pop up Management Console. Choose the "System" option and, if there's something recorded there you can't miss it. It'll be highlighted by a big red circle with and X in it.
