ok, aparently intel disabled virtualization on these things.
But what is going to happen if i try and use vmware with this thing? (i wanna try out my new slipstreamed windows disk before i reinstall and find it doesnt work)

It is hardware virtualization that is disabled, where VMWare is a software based solution. You shouldn't have any issues at all with it, unless there is a software compatibility problem.

so what is a good free software virtualization tool which i could use a virtual drive to install my new slipstreamed xp disk?

VMWare server is free. Probably about the best thing you're going to find for Windows. It's a little harder to use than VMWare Workstation due to the server features, but you can use it locally too.

There's also Virtual PC 2007 which is available for free now. Although its mainly for Windows OS's, but it can be modded to work with Linux.

well i only wanted to check my new windows cd worked before i reformat and find it doesnt.
